From Lima the capital city to the mythic city of Iquitos on the rio Amazon, from the historic city Cuzco and by the legendary Machu Picchu, one of the 7th new marvellous of the world, you will discover the multiple wealthes and cultures of Peru, through a solidary and responsible travel, created by Latitud Sur for the Amazon part and the solidary travel agency Pukanina for the South of Peru.

You will take part to a cruise in full pension, all included (apart from alcoholic beverages, sodas, personals purchases and eventual tips) with confort but without inappropriated luxury, Latitud Sur which has as a principle to travel without enter in a consummation exaggerated model. You will discover the huge biodiversity of the Amazonian Jungle, its wildlife among the most affluent of the world, and you will meet communities with strong identity, and share the subtlety of indigenous people. The Amazon will show you, through its nature its secrets and its mysteries.

All the benefits of this cruise organized by the NGO french-peruvian Latitud Sur will be use to implement or sustain projects of development in rural communities of the Loreto area that you will see during your travel. A responsible travel, beyond of classical criterias of the ecotourism, which allow wondering about environemental and indigeneous issues. This unique travel will drive you in the South of Peru on sites with strong touristic effects, and so enough visited, notably the Machu Picchu particularly in high season (July and August). Nevertheless how could you miss theses natural, archeological, historical and cultural wonders so close…

Beyond the simple tourism, the aim is to meet the populations in their actual context, on the authentical way and no folklorical. Si it is planned real exchanges with indigeneous with the help of a guide. The solidary travel agency Puka Nina has got for battle horse the development of populations, no by paternalism, but by work opportunities offered to these communities thanks to the ecotourism and oriented towards the social evolution of people by the economical and cultural development.

The SELVA VIVA (the Alive Forest in Spanish) is a traditional Brazilian wooden boat with a 22 meters long flat bottom, 8 meters wide on three levels and a 1,50-meter draft. It has a 125 horsepower motor (for a cruise’s speed of 6 knots), 4 double and one simple cabins, with a maximal capacity of 18 passengers (including the 7 crew members), a sounder, a GPS and a HF radio (500kms range). Its two aluminum annex boats one of 4 meters long with a maximal capacity of 5 passengers and one of 6,50 meters long with a capacity of 8 passengers are ultra-light and fast, and enter in the smallest rivers. The electrical energy of the boat is provided by 8 solar panels and a wind turbine.


Constructed in the popular Belen’s neighborhood in Iquitos in 2007-2008 with the support of the Audemars-Piguet foundation (Switzerland) and piloted by an experimented Peruvian crew, it spends the rest of the year working on medical and biodiversity’s protection’s missions under the aegis of the French Peruvian development NGO LATITUD SUR.

Its design makes it an open boat, familial, perfectly adapted to a family or a small group journey (10 passengers maximum). Its crew (7 members) will give you special attentions. The meals are diversified: you will never eat twice the same food during the cruise. Our Chef will be proud to make you discover the traditional Peruvian food, and will adapt it to everyone’s necessities (Diet, allergy, vegetarian…). Fresh fruit juices and purified water will be available at will on board. You will be settled in one of the simple, double or matrimonial cabins. Every night will be spent aboard the Selva Viva. A bar is open every day and we can add a musical background to the beautiful show that you will find yourself living! All nights are in board unless you prefered pass the night in the deep forest…

Journey description

You will begin this trip discovering the Amazonia by a cruise of 7 days. You will navigate on the mythical Rio Amazonas and will enter in the National Reserve Pacaya Samiria, the bigger natural reserve of Peru, and one of the area the most wealthy en biodiversity of the planet. On the 2 million hectares, we can account more than 250 species of fishes, 130 of mammals, 450 birds and 250 reptiles and amphibias in its luxurious vegetation and its waters with contrasted colours! The Amazonia through the Selva Viva, the solidary boat of the NGO Latitud Sur, for all the lovers of the nature.

D1: Arrival in Lima, reception at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Free meals. Night en Lima. Hotel 2*

D2 : National flight Lima Iquitos. Start of the cruise. Transfert to airport for a flight Lima-Iquitos. Arrival in Iquitos, reception at the airport and start of the cruise on the Rio Amazonas and its affluents. After the reception at the airport, transfert to Nauta on the M/F “Selva Viva”, in private minibus or taxi. Departure of the cruise direction the river Maranon to Nauta Cano, and first contact with the tropical wild jungle. Stop on an isolated site, then night excursion with the speed boat for looking for caimans. Meals included. Night on the boat.

D3 : Breakfast then excursion with the speed boat in the ornithological reserve of Nauta Cano, famous for these many birds and iguanes. Back to the boat for the breakfast. Cruise continues on the rio Maranon, until the indigeneous community de Solterito. Diner and night in board, close to the village. Meals included. Night on board.

D4 : Breakfast then, visit the morning of Solterito with inhabitants, and notably its gardens and giant lilies. Lunch on the board and navigation during the afternoon on Maranon river. Night in board.

D5 : Breakfast and entry to the Reserve. Excursion in peke-peke in black water of Yanayacu with the Indians in order to enjoy the unbelievable biodiversity of the area. Breakfast on the Selva Viva, then visit of the village cocama de San Martin de Tipishca, discovery of handcrafts, indigenous know-how and agricultural techniques in flood ground. Diner and night in board. Meals included.

D6 : Second day in the Reserve : breakfast in board, then naturalist excursion in primary forest with a local guide, observation of wildlife, and notably of monkeys. Back to the boat for the breakfast then direction Bolivar village for a party night with inhabitants. Night on the Selva Viva, close to the village. Meals included. Night on board.

D7 : Departure early morning and breakfast going down the Maranon. Breakfast and navigation to the mirador Grau to admire the sunset on the confluence of the Ucayali and the Maranon. We are precisely in the place where borns the Amazon! Diner at board then party night with the crew. Meals included. Night on board.

D8 : Breakfast in board and navigation to Iquitos. Breakfast during the navigation and arrival of the Selva Viva in Iquitos around 2pm. Possibility to visit Iquitos and the district of Belen with its typical market. Handcrafts, medicinal plants, and others souvenirs can be proposed. Transfer at the airport for the flight Iquitos-Lima. Arrival to Lima, reception at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Breakfast included on the board, free diner. Night in Lima. Hotel 2*

This cruise can be done in the other direction (Iquitos-Nauta) reversing the program.

The second part of your travel will bring you on the ancestral ground inca, in the south of the country. You will visit many archeological incas sites whose the majority are classified historic monuments (notably the Machu Picchu), the sacred valley, and will feel the energy come from stones of these sacred places. The tour planned will make you discover the indigenous populations still speaking the quechua, their way of life and their activities. A diving in the heart of the history of one of the fascinating civilizations of all the Latin America.

D9 : Lima-Cuzco (3400m)
National Flight Lima Cuzco-Free time in Cuzco. Transfer to the airport for your flight Lima-Cuzco. Arrival in Cuzco, reception at the airport, and transfer to the airport. Free time in Cuzco for the acclimatation of the altitude. Free meals. Night in Cuzco. Hotel 2*

D10 : Cuzco Chinchero (3750m) Piuray Lake.
Departure towards Chinchero (3700m). Before the village, we will go to the Piuray Lake and according to the circunstances (season), we could observe the work of the peasantries. You could plan some foodstuffs for the peasantries that we will meet in the fields. After, we will arrive to an indigenous community in Chinchero, where the women show us from the beginning to the end of the process the fabrication of the tissues such we made it in the Inca time. Possibility to purchase their local production of textile. Back to Cuzco. Breakfast in a typical restaurant (in Cuzco in an indigenous community), free diner. Night in Cuzco. Hotel 2*

D11 : Cuzco-Pisaq-Ollantaytambo-Patakancha.
Departure to Pisaq with your local guide, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit of the ruins and the market. The afternoon, we follow the valley, landscapes are absolutely different. Visit of singular site of Ollantaytambo. Typical breakfast in Pisac included, dinner in the house of an inhabitant in Patakancha. Night in Patakancha in the inhabitant.

D12 : Patakancha-Ollantaytambo-Machupicchu Pueblo.
Departure from Patakancha according to the hour of your train for Machupicchu. Arrivall at Ollantaytambo and boarding for your trip in autonomy by train to Machupicchu Pueblo. During this trip, the landscapes and the climate change litteraly: we are going in semi-tropical environment. Free breakfast, gourmet dinner included. Night in Machupicchu Pueblo. Hotel 2*.

D13 : Machupicchu Pueblo-Cuzco.
Early morning, Bus to see the remains of Machupicchu and visit of the site with your private guide. Machupicchu has been discovered scientifically the 24th July 1911 by the American historian Hiram Bingham of the Universityof Yale. What could be said, it is that the city was perfectly organized and took part from a network of sites scattered along the nice road to go there. The afternoon or the night back in train depending of the train time, arrival at Cuzci and transfer to your hotel. Free meals. Night in Machupicchu Pueblo. Hotel 2*

D14 : Cuzco-Lima
National flight Cuzco-Lima and visit of the city. Transfer to the airport Velasco Astete of Cuzco and boarding for your flight to Lima.
Visit of the center of Lima, its surrounding neighborhoods, then Museum of Archeology and Antropology of Pueblo Libre, this last visit done in autonomy (private transport and entries included, without guide). Free meals. Night in Lima. Hotel 2*.

D15 : Lima-International flight
End of the services for Latitud Sur and Puka Nina. Free day in Lima and transfer to the airport 4 hours before your international flight. Meals included. Not night planned in a hotel for his day.
